This is one of those rare mono versions of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles. My mother purchased it years ago when it was originally released. I'm not an expert in record grading at all, so I'll describe what I see.
First, I had to go to my grandmother's house to borrow her record player. I figured I had better listen to this album and the other two Beatles albums I intended to put up for auction on Ebay. I don't know how old her needle is, or its condition other than simply saying the albums did play sufficiently for me to relay my findings.
Side one of the LP has several long, but *very* shallow scratches on it. There is one short 1/8" scratch at the very edge of the last track toward the label, and it's fairly deep. When I played the track ("Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite") the first time, the needle got stuck there. As I totally lack any form of record cleaning agents, I simply took a paper towel and went over the scratch several times without any kind of fluid. On that song being replayed, it did not stick the next time.
Side two has few scratches, and none of them deep. I should point out that these albums do, however need a good cleaning --- I can see buildup on them, but have nothing to clean them with. As for the playing itself, all seem to be fine; you can, however occassionally hear minor audible popping consistent with the age of the vinyl more than anything.
As to the other material associated with this album: the edge of the album's back cover has a 4 1/4" split running along its top. The rest of the edges aren't split, but they do have definite wear. The interior foldout depicting the four Beatles is in excellent shape. The outer front (pictured at bottom) and back cover do show wear, the back especially so.
The record itself is the MONO type, as indicated on the labeling (MAS-2653) of the rainbow-colored Capitol Records label. Also, this auction includes the green sheet featuring Sgt. Pepper Cut-Outs. It's in good shape for its age, having a slight amount of scuffing on its edge close to the left corner. Note: I do not possess the original (or otherwise for that matter) protective paper sleeve for the record.
